Rosalía Debuts The New Balance 990v7

Published on

Rosalía was spotted jogging through New York the other day, and sneakerheads immediately noticed her unreleased kicks: the highly anticipated New Balance 990v7. While New Balance recently teased the upcoming silhouette on a Chinatown billboard, this candid look gives us our absolute best glimpse yet at the unreleased model.

Looking at the 990v7, you can still see plenty of the previous 990v6 in the design, but New Balance has changed a few things around. The mudguard is noticeably bigger, the panels sit a little differently, and the “N” logo is somewhere between the sizes used on the 990v6 and older models like the 990v3. Some of the materials along the sides also appear to be new. They kept the familiar grey suede for the first colorway, though the slightly aged finish on the logo and midsole is a little different from what we’re used to seeing on the standard grey 990s.

There’s some new stuff going on underfoot as well, with softer FuelCell foam replacing the firmer feel of earlier versions. New Balance is also using ENCAP cushioning, a CR stability component, and a new TPU shank plate to help with support. The idea is to make the shoe more comfortable without losing the stability people expect from the 990 series.

New Balance hasn’t announced a release date for the 990v7 just yet, but with Rosalía already wearing them and the recent teasers around New York, more information should be coming soon.
