New Balance 990v7 Gets Its First Early Look

Published on

New Balance is finally starting to show the 990v7 after a long run with the 990v6. The current model has been around since 2022, so seeing the next version pop up now doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

One of the first clues came from Loopwheelers founder Satoshi Suzuki after a recent trip to New Balance’s Boston headquarters. He posted a photo with company chairman Jim Davis, who was wearing a sneaker that hadn’t been seen before and is now believed to be the 990v7.

New Balance followed that up with a billboard near Hester and Lafayette Streets in New York City. The ad gives another look at the shoe, but not enough to see every part of the design clearly just yet.

From what is visible, the 990v7 looks a little different from the 990v6. The shape appears longer through the body, with a lower cut around the ankle and less of the rounded look used on the current model. At first glance, it brings to mind some of the older 99X designs, including the 2040v5.

So far, New Balance has only shown the 990v7 in its usual grey colorway. Better images and release details have yet to be announced.
