Better Air Jordan Doernbecher: Air Jordan 3 or Air Jordan 6

Much like the holiday Air Jordan 11s, Nike’s Doernbecher Collection is one of the most hyped releases every year. While we wait for this year’s lineup to be revealed, we take a look back at two previous colorways.

The Air Jordan 6 Doernbecher made its debut as part of the Freestyle Collection back in 2009 designed by Doernbecher patient Jordan Dark. It featured a Blue suede upper with Red and Gold accents for an “Olympic” styled-vibe completed with clear outsoles.

The Air Jordan 3 was designed by patient Cole Johnson, a teen cancer survivor from the 2010 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection. Back in 2013, the Air Jordan 3 DB also saw a limited re-release.

Looking back at these Air Jordan Doernbecher models, which do you guys think was the better release? Cast your vote below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Sneaker Talk: Air Jordan 5 “Michigan”

Following the recent release of the Air Jordan 12 Michigan, we decided to take a look back at another Michigan-themed Air Jordan.

Jordan Brand showed love to the University of Michigan Wolverines with not one, but two Air Jordan 5 PE colorways, one was the “Fab Five” pair and the other in the Wolverines’s team colors. It features a tonal Navy upper with Michigan’s signature “M” logo on the heel in Varsity Maize, while matching accents is used on the tongues and midsole shark teeth. An icy outsole completes the design.

For those that can remember, Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh personally gifted Pope John Francis a pair of these.

The Nike EXP-X14 Releases July 6th

Nike EXP-X14 Dark Grey Total Crimson AO1554-001 Release Date

Nike Sportswear continues to push the boundaries of lifestyle footwear through the use of numbers and transparent design elements. One of their newest models, the EXP-X14 is finally set to make its officially debut in July.

Its EXP name is short of “Experiment,” which was essentially how the Nike Sportswear designers adapted performance running features into a lifestyle shoe. The second part of the shoe’s name, X14, was the original internal codename for Nike React technology (which is used in the shoe’s midsole to provide cushion for all-day comfort). N3546, which is printed on the medial side, represents Steve Prefontaine’s fastest mile (3 minutes and 54.6 seconds) and nods to Nike’s rich history in running.

Dressed in a Black, Volt, Total Crimson, Dark Grey, Wolf Grey and Golden Beige color scheme. This Nike EXP-X14 features a translucent upper, TPU plate that is exposed below nods to the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%.

Air Jordan International Flight Collection Releasing With Matching Jerseys

Jordan Brand’s Air Jordan International Flight Collection kicks off with the release of the Air Jordan 3 tomorrow, June 30th. The other models included is the Air Jordan 5 that drops August 28th and the Air Jordan 12 dropping September 8th. To go along with all three Air Jordans, you’ll also have an opportunity to cop its matching jersey.

The International Flight Collection highlights three moments during Michael Jordan’s summer tours, beginning back in 1988.

Air Jordan 3 International Flight

August 8, 1988: Los Angeles, California

In the summer of ’88, MJ played a charity game in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 17,500 passionate basketball fans in L.A. He was the star of the show and scored a team-high 54 points. The event also raised $650,000 for the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) — the nation’s largest private scholarship provider to students of color — an organization that Jordan Brand has had a relationship with for over 30 years now.

Air Jordan 3 International Flight

The Air Jordan 3 “International Flight” has Blue and Red accents inspired by the jerseys players wore during the charity game. Jordan’s signature is on the tongue of the right shoe (since Jordan is right-handed). Patterns on the collar are inspired by the stars on the jerseys.

Air Jordan 5 International Flight

August 30, 1990: Barcelona, Spain

Two years before he’d take his famous stroll around the city (before winning a gold medal), MJ put on a show at a local Spanish League opener in Barcelona. As part of a European tour that year, Jordan arrived just before the start of the Spanish League season. He judged the slam dunk contest and played in a promotional game, finishing the evening with a team-high 37 points.

Air Jordan 5 International Flight

The Air Jordan 5 “International Flight” has an Orange and Blue mosaic pattern inspired by street art in Barcelona, as well as the colors of the jerseys MJ wore during the game. It also changes the spelling of Air to “Aire” on the tongue, referring to the Spanish translation of Air Jordan.

Air Jordan 12 International Flight

September 12, 1996: Tokyo, Japan

The summer after Jordan’s 72-10 championship season, MJ and other NBA stars went to Tokyo for a basketball clinic. In front of 32,000 fans, players like MJ and Michael Finley showed off by playing 1-on-1, 4-on-4 and even having a little friendly competition with some of Japan’s famous sumo wrestlers.

Finley would go on to become one of the first Jordan Brand athletes. He remembers that whether MJ was playing for a championship or against sumo wrestlers in Japan, he never lost his competitive nature. “We did a little scrimmage against some local guys and a couple of the sumo wrestlers who probably had never touched a basketball in their lives,” recalls Finley. “He had fun with them and joked around, but at the end of the day he told us, ‘Yo, we’re not losing this game.’ He said, ‘I don’t lose. Whether it’s for charity, scrimmage, or in the season, I don’t lose.’”

Air Jordan 12 International Flight

The Air Jordan 12 “International Flight” has a koi fish scale print on the mud guard and an embossed, kimono-inspired print on the upper. The characters on the heel of the shoe translate to “Air Jordan”
