New Balance “Boro Pack” Releases November 2023

Published on

New Balance‘s upcoming “Boro Pack” is set to launch in November 2023, featuring two iconic sneaker models, the 550 and the 580. These sneakers showcase the renowned Japanese “boro” patchwork technique, a time-honored method originating in rural Japan in the 1850s. Farmers initially used “boro” to mend clothing and keep warm during harsh winters. The process entailed creating multiple layers of patchworked cotton or hemp, salvaging precious materials in high demand at the time.

The 550 and 580 from the “Boro Pack” exhibit remarkable intricacy, incorporating an array of indigo hues and textures, paying homage to the hand-sewn techniques characteristic of “boro.” These panels are meticulously assembled with exposed white stitching, adding to their authentic charm.

What sets these sneakers apart is the diverse range of materials used. You’ll find soft suede, hairy suede, pre-aged suede, denim, woven canvas, and for the 550s, cracked leather. The fusion of these materials results in a truly unique and visually captivating design.
