mfpen Strips Back the New Balance 992 for First Sneaker Collab

Published on

mfpen is taking on its first sneaker collaboration with New Balance, putting its own spin on the 992 for Spring/Summer 2027. The Copenhagen label debuted the shoe during its latest runway show at Copenhagen Fashion Week, keeping the look close to the familiar grey 992 while cutting back some of the usual branding.

Sigurd Bank’s mfpen has built its name around loose tailoring, understated menswear, and small production runs that often use deadstock materials. That same approach shows up here without overcomplicating the shoe. The standard “N” logo has been removed from the side panels, but the stitching holes and outline are still visible.

Grey suede covers the overlays, with white mesh underneath and chrome leather worked into the midfoot. The metallic sections stand out more than anything else on the upper, especially against the otherwise muted color palette.

There are a few smaller changes too. The tongue is done in suede with exposed foam around the edges, and the pair shown on the runway came with white laces finished with thin black dotted lines.

The mfpen x New Balance 992 is set to release during Spring/Summer 2027.
