JJJJound did more than change the colors on the New Balance 740. The Montreal studio reworked the upper, trimmed back some of the retro runner’s busier details, and gave the revised version a new name: the New Balance 740N.

The standard model uses open mesh with synthetic leather overlays, but that setup has been replaced here with lightweight no-sew construction. It leaves the shoe looking smoother and a little more technical, while the overall 2000s-era shape remains familiar. The result feels noticeably different from the 740 New Balance brought back in 2024 without turning it into an entirely new model.

Beige, taupe, and off-white make up most of the JJJJound x New Balance 740N “Mushroom.” The earthy palette recalls the “Mushroom” color direction used on earlier JJJJound projects, including the New Balance 990v4 and 993. Navy shows up around the eyelets and tongue, with smaller red accents worked into the tongue and heel.
