Foot Locker will debut The Crenshaw Rec in South Los Angeles on August 22 when the retailer opens the shop at 3222 W Slauson Ave. near Crenshaw Boulevard. There will be sneakers and clothes, of course, but Foot Locker is also opening up the space for activations and programming centered around the community.
Nike, Jordan Brand, Converse, and local community leaders were involved in putting the concept together. It draws from recreation centers and the way those spaces have long mixed sports, culture, and community in one place.
Nipsey Hussle’s history around Crenshaw and Slauson also played a part in the project. He grew up around the area and remained connected to South Los Angeles through his music, businesses, and community work.
Music academies, educational workshops, run clubs, barber shop cuts, and other programs are planned throughout the year. Local businesses and entrepreneurs will get involved too, with pop-ups and future collaborations planned for the space.
Footwear and apparel from the NIKE, Inc. family will be sold alongside merchandise specific to The Crenshaw Rec. That includes a Crenshaw High School x Nike Team Shop collection and a capsule from designer Gavin Mathieu.
The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker opens Saturday, August 22, 2026. A Community Swap Meet and 3-on-3 basketball tournament begins at 10 a.m. on opening day, with local vendors, community partners, and special guests taking part.
