Sotheby’s is marking the 40th Anniversary of Michael Jordan’s iconic Air Jordan line with a monumental “Genesis” collection, showcasing rare and historic sneakers tied to the basketball legend’s legacy. Among the standout items is an unworn 1985 Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” player sample, signed by Jordan himself. This highly coveted pair is expected to fetch between $80,000 and $120,000 at auction.
Crafted to Jordan’s specifications, the left shoe is size 13, while the signed right shoe is 13.5, reflecting his exact playing dimensions. These pristine sneakers highlight the enduring appeal of the Air Jordan brand and its connection to Jordan’s illustrious career.
Other notable items include game-worn Air Jordan 8 “Playoffs” sneakers from the 1993 NBA Finals, as well as a pair of “Cardinal” Jordan 7s worn during his legendary 64-point performance against Shaquille O’Neal and the Orlando Magic. These pieces not only represent significant moments in Jordan’s career but also underscore the cultural impact of his footwear line.
The auction will take place from December 2 to December 16, offering collectors and fans an unparalleled opportunity to own pieces of basketball and sneaker history. All items will be displayed at Sotheby’s New York gallery from December 4 to 10, providing a closer look at the legacy of the greatest basketball player of all time.
