Reebok has made some changes to Allen Iverson’s original Question Mid for its 30th anniversary. The updated version, called the “Recoded,” releases November 10th and sticks close to the shoe’s 1996 design, but with new cushioning and other updates meant for playing basketball today.
Iverson first wore the Question during his rookie season in 1996, before Reebok introduced the Answer 1. The shoe became closely associated with his early years in Philadelphia, especially the pearlized leather toe, Hexalite cushioning, and mid-cut design. It also caught on away from basketball, eventually becoming one of Reebok’s most recognizable sneakers.
The Reebok Question Mid Recoded makes several changes underfoot without completely changing the original design. Reebok has reworked the outsole traction pattern, added a lightweight Super Critical Foam cushioning pod, and included a stability plate in the midsole. Those updates are intended to make the shoe better suited for modern basketball while improving comfort for everyday wear.
Two colorways are planned for the initial release. The original “Red Toe” returns with its familiar pearlized toe, joined by a new “30th Anniversary Green” version representing renewal and new beginnings. Reebok athlete Tounde Yessoufou has already worn the updated Red Toe during a game.
Reebok previously celebrated the Question’s 20th anniversary in 2016 with several retro releases and collaborations. The Recoded takes a different approach for the shoe’s 30th anniversary, updating its performance features rather than simply bringing back another version of the original.
The Reebok Question Mid Recoded launches November 10th through Reebok and exclusively at Foot Locker, with both brands hosting an immersive Philadelphia activation honoring Iverson and the shoe’s legacy.
