Caitlin Clark’s Nike Caitlin 1 Becomes Brand’s Biggest Signature Launch

Published on

Nike gave the Caitlin 1 one of its biggest rollouts ever, and now there are numbers behind just how large it was. CEO Elliott Hill said Caitlin Clark’s first signature shoe launched in around 5,000 stores on October 1, making it the biggest signature debut Nike has had to date.

That is roughly double the usual footprint for a Nike Basketball signature debut. The size of the launch also shows how much attention Nike is putting into women’s basketball right now. Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, and Clark have all received signature lines in the past three years, giving the brand a much stronger presence around the WNBA.

Clark brings a different level of mainstream attention to that group. Indiana Fever games have seen major jumps in ticket demand and television audiences, while her profile has continued to grow through national advertising and sponsorship deals away from basketball.

It is still too early to get a full picture of how the Caitlin 1 is selling. The “Racer Blue” and “Warning Code” colorways sold out through Nike shortly after launch, although sizes were still available at retailers including Foot Locker and DICK’S Sporting Goods.

Those early sellouts only tell part of the story since Nike has not shared production numbers or complete sales figures from the thousands of stores carrying the shoe. Kids’ sizing also has not released yet, which could become an important part of the market given Clark’s younger fan base.
