Boiled peanut stands have been part of Southern road trips for generations, and Fresh Rags is using that familiar roadside scene for its first collaboration with adidas. The Tampa retailer has reworked the Handball Spezial around the regional snack, naming the release “Hot Boiled Peanuts.”

The idea comes from the gas stations, neighborhood stores, and roadside stops where warm bags of boiled peanuts are still easy to find throughout Florida and the South. Often called “Southern Caviar,” the snack gives the full capsule its name and keeps the project tied closely to the culture Fresh Rags grew up around.

Colors, materials, and textures across the shoe were chosen to reflect the experience of pulling over somewhere along a Florida backroad for a fresh bag. Tampa Bay also gets a direct nod through the production run, which is limited to 813 individually numbered pairs in reference to the city’s 813 area code.

Matching apparel will be available during a roadside-themed stop-and-shop event at Coastal Creative, located at 2201 1st Ave S in St. Petersburg. The Burg Food Mart will serve complimentary hot boiled peanuts, while DJ Joey Franchize and special guests provide music throughout the event.

The Fresh Rags x adidas Handball Spezial “Boiled Peanuts” capsule releases August 8, 2026, at 11 AM in St. Petersburg. Online release details have yet to be announced.
