Victor Wembanyama’s Nike GT Cut 4 Takes Inspiration From Lady Liberty

Victor Wembanyama’s first signature shoe is coming, though Nike Basketball still has a few more GT Cut 4 releases tied to the Spurs star. The latest is a “Statue of Liberty” PE built around his French background and one of New York’s best-known landmarks.

Mint Foam covers most of the shoe, giving it the weathered green look associated with the statue today. Metallic Gold and copper-colored details point back to the monument’s original finish before oxidation changed its appearance.

The heel reads “You’re Welcome” alongside the French translation, “Vous êtes les bienvenus.” The phrase plays off the idea of Wemby being France’s gift to the NBA, drawing a connection to France gifting the Statue of Liberty to the United States. The monument was presented in the 1880s as a symbol of friendship between the two countries and to honor 100 years of American independence.

Photos surfaced after San Antonio lost to New York in the 2026 NBA Finals, which gave the theme a little more weight. The design does not lean on Knicks colors or heavy graphics. Most of the story comes through the color palette, the language, and the historical connection.
