Sneaker Talk: Parra x Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam”

Published on

In 2005, Parra dropped the iconic Parra x Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam.” Parra, the Dutch artist known for his vibrant, curvy post-pop art and striking colors, had already gained a devoted following among streetwear, sneaker, and street art enthusiasts. This limited release was a tribute to his hometown, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

Parra’s signature red, burgundy, and teal blue shades, reminiscent of his artwork, adorned the Air Max 1. His self-taught illustrative talent shone through, especially on the insoles. The Amsterdam crest on the heel gave this sneaker its catchy moniker. Reports suggest there are only 200-300 pairs in existence, some even landing in Nike outlet stores at an astonishing $30 price tag. Surprisingly, despite its rarity and limited sizing, the Parra Air Max 1 has become a coveted collector’s item.

For the fortunate few, the “Friends and Family” version, featuring Parra’s scripted signature on the forefoot mud guard, is an even rarer find, with approximately only 24 pairs circulating.

Today, you can rediscover the Parra x Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam.” If you’re on the hunt for sizes, check out resell platforms like StockX, where a few pairs may still be available. This iconic sneaker’s legacy endures, a testament to Parra’s enduring influence on the worlds of art and streetwear.
