Though the East beat the Western squad 129 to 118, Kemp finished the game with a modest stat line (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and assist) which included an assortment of high flying alley-oops and fast break dunks, the drawing factor was the flamboyant uniform he donned that spectacular evening. At the time the jersey was ridiculed by some for it’s loud colors and obnoxiously large “Chili Pepper” logo (representing the wild Chiltepin chile pepper grown in San Antonio). Ironically, almost 2 decades later, those same features and the legacy left behind by that weekends main event have made the jersey one of the most sought after by many.

Thus when our friends over at Reebok invited us to come up with our own take of Shawn Kemp’s iconic 1996 signature basketball shoe (the Reebok Kamikaze II), finding inspiration for such a collaboration was no-brainer. While the white/navy “All-Star Game” edition Reebok Kamikaze II (re-released earlier this year) Kemp wore IS a classic shoe, it was a rather stark contrast to the swanky design of that years asg jersey. With that in mind, we decided to take a “Why turn down when you can TURN UP” approach in this project…
