We’ve all heard talk that Nnamdi Asomugha is a top canidate for the Lions at the cornerback position. The 6 ft 2 210 pound DB has been all the talk in free agency. So far the Eagles, Packers, and Lions are on the top of the list. The 3 time pro bowler doesn’t rack up to many mind blowing statistics, but thats becasue no one throws to his side. In 2009 Nnamdi Asomugha was challenged only 27 times and allowed 13 completions. Whats even more impressive is that the shutdown corner lived up to his title in the 2010 season as well. Shadowing the opposing teams top receiver most of the season, Asomugha was still targeted much less than any other cornerback in the NFL. Asomugha allowed just 10 receptions on the 27 passes thrown his way. Most important, Asomugha did not give up a touchdown all year.
Even though Asomugha is 29 and turning 30 in July and is going to want a huge payout, I and many other Lions fans believe he is the answer for the Lions struggling secondary and could be a vital asset for us to make a playoff run.
