Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is still having a big say in how his signature shoes are designed, and he says the upcoming Nike SHAI 002 started with his own drawings. He did the same with the SHAI 001, so his second model looks like it will follow the same process.
Gilgeous-Alexander mentioned the shoe during a recent interview with TIME. He did not give much away, but when asked what people should expect from the SHAI 002, he said, “Sick design. Because I drew it. That’s all I can give you.”
He was involved with the SHAI 001 from the beginning and made some of the early sketches for that shoe as well. His latest comments make it clear that he is keeping that hands-on role instead of leaving the design work entirely to Nike.
The SHAI 002 will also be the first new signature model to come after his move from Converse to Nike in June 2026. His first shoe released through Converse, but the line is now moving forward under Nike Basketball. A Nike-branded SHAI 001 was also seen during Oklahoma City’s Media Day.
No images of the Nike SHAI 002 have surfaced yet, and Nike has not shared any performance details. The shoe is expected to release in early 2027.
