This model carries extra weight because it was the last sneaker Kobe Bryant worked on before his death. He developed it with longtime Nike designer Eric Avar and Bryant Klug. Another version, the Kobe NXT 1.0, is also planned for 2027.

The shoe first showed up during the 2026 Mamba Invitational in Los Angeles. Its outsole was featured in Troy “TYP” Murray’s “Sole Obsession” piece alongside soles from several other Kobe models.

According to Sneaker Files, the Sail-based pair is expected to use a cloth upper with black and Phantom details. The performance setup reportedly includes a ZoomX 3.0 drop-in midsole, a Synergia midfoot shank plate, and a carbon fiber plate.

Kobe wanted the NXT Prototype to stay light and responsive without giving up court feel or containment.
