UPDATE 4/4/26: The Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT “Siempre Hermanos” is set to release on April 24th for $200, arriving alongside a matching Nike Air Force 1. This pair is not connected to the Year of the Horse theme. Instead, it honors Kobe Bryant’s bond with Pau Gasol, drawing inspiration from the racehorse they purchased together in 2012. A horseshoe-shaped lace dubrae stamped with “Siempre Hermanos,” or “Always Brothers,” ties that story back into the design.
Original Story 1/8/26:
Nike is continuing its Lunar New Year theme with the Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT “Year of the Horse”, but this time as a lifestyle-first offering. Instead of starting from the basketball court like previous Kobe Protros, the 2026 Year of the Horse edition uses materials to tell a new story for the performance shoe classic. The switch also marks how the Kobe Brand is further expanding the scope of the Protro lineup.
Unlike the original Kobe 8, this EXT version leans into texture and restraint. A Light Orewood Brown suede upper establishes a muted base, while molded overlays reinforce structure across the toe and eyelets. Baroque Brown pony hair Swooshes and lining add depth, giving the silhouette a tactile, almost heritage feel.
At the heel, Ocean Cube suede replaces a traditional counter, stitched in white for contrast and clarity. Underfoot, a subtle Ocean Cube to Red Stardust gradient outsole introduces color without disrupting the earthy palette. Horseshoe-shaped metal lace dubraes quietly anchor the Year of the Horse theme.
