The Air Force 1 has taken on just about every New York theme over the years, but this one is definitely different. Nike’s “NYC Rat” pair uses dark leather, brown fur, and a few small details that make the inspiration pretty obvious once you start looking at it.

Dark gray leather covers most of the shoe, while brown faux fur takes over the Swoosh, collar, and heel. The laces are fuzzy too, which gives the pair a rougher look that fits the whole rat idea without making the shoe feel like a costume.

“NYC” branding sits on the tongue, and the heel hides a small red eye inside the fur. That little detail is easy to miss at first, but it is probably the clearest reference to the theme.

The rest of the shoe stays pretty dark. A black midsole is paired with brown “AIR” branding, while a muted pink translucent outsole adds some color underneath. Metallic lace dubrae finish off the front.

The “NYC Rat” is one half of a two-pair Air Force 1 pack that also includes the “MTA MetroCard” colorway. Both take a different part of New York and turn it into their own version of the Air Force 1.
