Sneaker Talk: Nike Air Foamposite One “Electrolime”

Published on

Remember when Foamposites were selling out almost every time Nike put out a new colorway? That was pretty much the situation in 2012, especially after the “Galaxy” Foamposite caused all kinds of trouble at stores. A few weeks later, the Nike Air Foamposite One “Electrolime” showed up with its bright yellow upper, right in the middle of all that Foamposite madness.

The yellow colorway actually goes back to the 1993 NBA Draft, when the Golden State Warriors selected Penny Hardaway with the third overall pick. He never played a game for Golden State, though, since the team traded him to Orlando for Chris Webber that same night. Nike used that short connection to the Warriors for the “Electrolime,” with a few details taken from the team’s older uniforms.

Bright yellow covers the molded Foamposite shell, with black nubuck running along the eyestays and black mesh around the inner bootie. The Penny “1¢” logos on the tongue and heel have small navy and obsidian accents, matching colors the Warriors wore back then. The shoe also has the usual carbon fiber shank plate underneath, along with a translucent icy outsole.

There was another yellow Foamposite One released by Nike Sportswear in June 2016, but it wasn’t the same as the original “Electrolime.” That shoe was called “Optic Yellow”, and the shade of yellow was noticeably different. Nike also gave it a solid black rubber outsole rather than the translucent sole used on the 2012 pair. The two shoes might look similar in certain photos, but they’re different releases.

The Nike Air Foamposite One “Electrolime” has only been released once, back in 2012. Nike hasn’t confirmed whether the colorway will return, although another release remains possible. Original pairs can still be found on resale sites such as StockX.
