Nike Air Max 90 “Black Leather” Reworks the Classic Design

Published on

Nike has a new version of the Air Max 90 lined up for Fall 2026, with the SP “Black Leather” bringing some noticeable changes to the original design. Instead of the usual layers of leather, mesh, and plastic, Nike has gone with a mostly leather upper, using stitched details in place of several familiar overlays. The look is closer to some of the simpler footwear NikeLab released over the years.

Rather than layering separate pieces across the upper, Nike uses stitching to mark out the Swoosh, mudguard, and side panels. The details are still easy to make out against the black leather, but the surface is much smoother than a regular Air Max 90. Even the plastic eyestays have been replaced with perforated leather.

The same perforated material appears around the heel, where the usual Nike Air branding has been removed. A tonal logo remains on the tongue, and the black laces blend into the rest of the upper.

The changes stop at the sole, which keeps the familiar Air Max 90 midsole and visible heel cushioning. There’s a faint blue tint inside the Air window, though the midsole and rubber outsole are otherwise black.

The Nike Air Max 90 SP “Black Leather” is expected to release in Fall 2026 through Nike and select retailers, priced at $150.
