Our Ty Mopkins recently had to opportunity to sit down and talk to Frank Cooker, buyer for Wish sneaker boutique in Atlanta, to give us details about the Wish x PONY Slam Dunk Hi “Good Fortune” collaboration. Be sure to read through the interview below and drop a comment letting us know what you think.

Ty/SBD: How did the collaboration with Pony come about and why Pony.

Frank: Great energy with Trevor D. over at Pony and my main man Paul Lee from Ubiq / Atmos. The process was totally organic between all parties involved, and Paul and I thought it would be unique to do a dual release, something that has never been done before.

Ty/SBD: What was the inspiration behind the materials that were used for the sneakers.

Frank: The original concept behind the shoe was the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse … hence the red, black, silver and white.. But I wanted the concept to be grasped by all audiences, so year of the horse fit a little better in accomplishing that.

Ty/SBD: Why are the sneakers called “Good Fortune”?

Frank: The Year of the Horse is known to bring “Good Fortune”, which told a story, especially when we had the custom fortune cookie detail.

Ty/SBD: How long have you been buying for Wish Atlanta.

Frank: Time has blown by.. but 2008

Ty/SBD: What was your first reaction when you saw the finished product of the shoes?

Frank: I was blown away by the execution on Pony’s behalf on materials. We pretty much got it down in one sample round which usually does not happen for me! I am very particular about materials and how they tell a story on someone’s foot, because that’s what sneakers are all about – telling a story.

Ty/SBD: When and where can Sneaker Bar Detroit readers purchase the shoes?

Frank: They will be for sell at www.wishatl.com at midnight 4/25/14 and in store at noon 4/25/14.

Special Thanks to @teamMOPKINS, @frankcooker, @wishATL, @ponykicks.

And as always be sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Bar for more interviews coming soon.
