Jordan Brand considered a much different version of the Air Jordan 11 for the 30th anniversary of Space Jam, and one of the unreleased samples recently shown in Los Angeles gives a look at how far the idea went. Known as the “Space Jam Galaxy,” the sample replaces the usual patent leather look with a color-shifting green finish inspired by the movie’s outer-space setting.
The sample was designed around the outer-space theme of Space Jam, with Jordan Brand taking a more direct approach to the movie’s sci-fi setting. A premium leather upper is paired with a lenticular section that changes appearance depending on the angle, while glow-in-the-dark laces and outsoles add another detail tied to the concept.
The design was originally considered for the Space Jam 30th Anniversary collection, but the materials reportedly pushed production costs too high for a wider release. That ultimately kept the shoe in sample form.
The Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam Galaxy” Sample will not release to the public.
