Above The Clouds has worked its way through quite a few ASICS models over the years, and the GEL-SD Lyte is next in line. Past releases have included the GT-2160, GEL-1090, Skycourt, and more recently the GEL-Quantum 360. This one doesn’t follow the same formula, though, with woven leather changing much of how the shoe normally looks.

Above The Clouds and ASICS are back together with another project, adding the GEL-SD Lyte to a partnership that has already covered several different corners of the ASICS lineup.

The biggest change comes across the upper, where the usual open mesh has been replaced by strips of woven leather. The overlapping pieces leave small gaps between them and give the shoe a look that feels more handmade than the standard GEL-SD Lyte. According to Above The Clouds, the idea comes from the long history of weaving and the communities built around craft and design.

Darker panels wrap around the toe, eyestays, and heel, while the ASICS stripes blend into the woven construction along both sides. Most of the attention stays on the leather work up top, with the familiar GEL-SD Lyte tooling left underneath to keep the original shape of the model intact.

The Above The Clouds x ASICS GEL-SD Lyte releases September 25, 2026, through Above The Clouds. A wider launch through ASICS and select retailers will follow the next week.
