Bucky Irving’s Custom Nike KD 4 Cleats Get Kevin Durant’s Attention

Kevin Durant saw Bucky Irving wearing his KD 4 on the football field and had one question for Nike: why not make an official cleat?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back recently wore a custom KD 4 converted for football, with the pair later making its way onto Durant’s Instagram Story. KD tagged Nike and asked the brand to make him some cleats, adding that he was tired of seeing players depend on customizers to bring his older sneakers onto the field.

Basketball shoes showing up in the NFL has become much more common over the past several years. Jordan Brand has already turned a number of Air Jordan models into football cleats, while the Air Jordan 1 has become a regular sight on the field. Nike has done the same with Kobe Bryant’s line, including the Kobe 6 Vapor Edge “Grinch” released in 2024.

Custom cleats helped get much of that started before brands began making their own versions. Odell Beckham Jr. was among the players who pushed the look during the mid-2010s, wearing customized sneakers that had been rebuilt for football.

Irving’s KD 4 was customized by @donebydiego, and Durant clearly likes the idea enough to ask Nike for the real thing. There’s no word yet on whether an official Nike KD 4 football cleat is actually in the works. A release date has yet to be announced.
