The Nike LeBron 24 is getting closer to its debut, and a small group recently got the chance to put LeBron James’ next signature shoe to the test. Nike Basketball invited several basketball creators and people from around the game to Beaverton, where they received an early wear-test version limited to just 50 pairs.
Dressed completely in black, the sample isn’t a colorway that will be sold to the public. Blacked-out pairs like this are commonly used during Nike’s testing process, but this one gives us a much better look at the LeBron 24 before the retail releases begin rolling out.
One of the biggest changes comes from the shoe’s weight. Nike is calling the LeBron 24 the lightest model in LeBron’s signature series, using a new KingKnit upper made from three layers of Flyknit. The overall shape also sits lower than what we’ve seen on many recent LeBron models.
There’s still plenty of cushioning packed underneath. The setup includes a drop-in ReactX midsole along with Zoom Turbo and Zoom Air, keeping the performance tech expected from LeBron’s signature line while moving away from the bulkier look of some previous models.
Only 50 pairs of the black Nike LeBron 24 wear-test sample were produced, with pairs handed out to select guests during the Beaverton gathering. This version won’t be released, but retail colorways of the LeBron 24 are expected to follow. A release date has yet to be announced.
