The LeBron 23 is still getting new releases even with the LeBron 24 getting closer, and this next pair digs back into one of the earliest moments of LeBron James’ Nike career.

The “Laser” colorway takes inspiration from the Air Zoom Generation PE LeBron wore on Christmas Day in 2003 against Tracy McGrady and the Orlando Magic. That pair used Nike’s laser-etching treatment, a design idea Mark Smith helped push across several Nike and Jordan releases during the early 2000s.

Nike brings that look back on the LeBron 23 with laser-style graphics covering the crown-shaped shell around the shoe. Most of the upper stays white, while red lining inside adds a little more contrast and ties back to the original inspiration.

The connection works especially well considering the timing. LeBron wore the original Air Zoom Generation “Laser” during his rookie season, and 23 years later the idea returns on his 23rd signature model.
