Jordan Brand had plans for an Air Jordan 5 “Black Cat” a few years back, but the release never made it out. That pair was expected in 2024 before getting scrapped. Now the idea is back, and the shoe is currently lined up for Fall 2027.
The look stays pretty simple. Black nubuck is expected to cover the upper, giving the Air Jordan 5 the same dark treatment that has already shown up on other “Black Cat” releases. The shape is also said to be closer to the original AJ5 mold.
There are a couple details that should make this version stand out from the canceled pair. Nike Air is expected on the heels, replacing the Jumpman branding that was previously planned. The “23” will also return on the lateral side, using the original-style font.
That 2024 cancellation left this colorway hanging for a while, especially since the Air Jordan 5 has never had a widely released “Black Cat” version like the Air Jordan 3 or Air Jordan 4. Three years later, it looks like Jordan Brand is finally going through with it.
