James Whitner’s Whitaker Group, known for elevating minority voices, is expanding its Pittsburgh-based gallery, 38a, to Charlotte. This exciting move brings Whitaker Group’s unique approach to art and culture to a new city. To mark this milestone, Whitaker Group launched “Queens and Kings: A Tale of Two Cities,” a traveling exhibition that features the work of underrepresented artists. This exhibition showcases Whitner’s commitment to supporting diverse creators, uniting art communities in Pittsburgh and Charlotte.
Alongside the exhibit, the Whitaker Group partnered with adidas to introduce a special edition of the iconic Superstar sneaker. Inspired by playing cards, this unique design adds a regal touch to the classic silhouette. Named the “Black/White” colorway, this limited Superstar features “Q” and “K” backtabs representing the Queen and King of a card deck. The insoles carry card-themed graphics, while the upper is crafted with premium pebbled leather. 38a branding further personalizes this exclusive sneaker.
The Charlotte showcase of the “Queens & Kings” exhibit runs from November 15 to December 6. It then moves to Pittsburgh from December 13 to 30. Staying true to Whitaker Group’s exclusivity, this special Superstar will not be available for sale. Instead, select artists and collaborators will receive it as a token of gratitude and recognition.
Through this collaboration, Whitner reinforces his dedication to art, culture, and community. The “Queens & Kings” exhibition and adidas partnership highlight Whitaker Group’s ongoing efforts to support new voices in art and fashion. This initiative strengthens Whitner’s vision of creating lasting connections between creators and communities, making a positive impact on the creative world.
