Tasnim Chowdhury is the latest designer to show what she’s been working on through Nike Air Works, revealing a new 3D-printed sneaker created with Zellerfeld. The British-Bangladeshi designer is one of eight creatives involved in the program, which has been used to experiment with new footwear shapes and manufacturing methods.
The sneaker takes a few familiar ideas from older Air Max models and works them into a completely different build. Curved sections stretch up from the midsole and across the forefoot, giving the upper a look that brings the Air Max Moto 2K to mind. Since the shoe is 3D printed, those shapes are formed directly into the structure instead of being built from separate stitched panels.
Exposed Air cushioning sits underfoot and gives the sole another connection to Nike’s past. The shape and placement of the visible units are similar to what has been used on the Air Max Plus, while the rest of the shoe leans much more into the sculpted look that has become part of Zellerfeld’s printed footwear.
Chowdhury first showed the sneaker during a Nike Air Works event at Manor Place in London. For now, the design remains part of the Air Works program, and a release date has yet to be announced.
