Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has launched Ohana Hatake, his own footwear brand, fusing art, Japanese culture, and innovative design. Known for his vibrant flower motifs, Murakami now brings his iconic style into footwear, taking a bold step in his artistic journey. The brand’s name, “Ohana Hatake,” draws inspiration from the flower theme in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, a popular manga, emphasizing Murakami’s passion for flowers as symbols of happiness and growth.
Ohana Hatake’s first collection introduces two standout models: the Ohana Full-Bloom and the Surippa Ohana. The Ohana Full-Bloom sandal, crafted from lightweight EVA foam, showcases Murakami’s signature flower design in a bold and playful form. The Surippa Ohana, a modern Japanese slipper, displays Murakami’s artwork on the sole, adding a unique touch to traditional Japanese footwear. Created in collaboration with VIOLET ST, these designs symbolize joy and cultural fusion, each piece reflecting Murakami’s artistic vision.
To mark the brand’s debut, Ohana Hatake will appear at ComplexCon in Las Vegas on November 16-17, hosted by Travis Scott. Visitors will experience an immersive showcase of the brand, with chances to purchase exclusive colorways, including the Ohana Full-Bloom and the Surippa Ohana in “Rust,” which honors Murakami’s KaiKai Kiki studio team.
