SLAM Nike Zoom Hyperflight "Starfish" IV6130-800

Nike is bringing the Zoom Hyperflight back into the spotlight with some help from SLAM, connecting two names that were all over basketball culture during the early 2000s.

The SLAM x Nike Zoom Hyperflight “Starfish” is the first shoe revealed from a larger collection between the two brands. Additional releases are expected to include the Nike GT Cut 4, Sabrina 3, and Ja 4.

SLAM has covered basketball through its own mix of hoops, sneakers, music, and street culture since launching in 1994. That history makes the Hyperflight a fitting choice for the collaboration, especially considering how closely the model is tied to the same era.

After an early heel preview surfaced in February, Nick DePaula gave us an on-foot look at the pair a few months ago while wearing them at Golden One Center. Now, with the release getting closer, official images give us a much better look at all of the details.

The shoe comes covered in glossy Starfish orange patent leather, giving the upper a look similar to the shine of a magazine cover while also pulling from SLAM’s familiar orange branding. A white Swoosh appears near the lateral toe, while grey covers the tongue, laces, and portions of the outsole.

Black detailing along the side structure breaks up the bright upper, while reflective 3M material appears around the collar and tongue. When hit with light, those sections light up and add another element to an otherwise straightforward orange, grey, and black color scheme.

SLAM branding is also worked into the tongue and heel, with the large “S” logo appearing across the back of each shoe. The collaboration keeps much of the Hyperflight’s original shape intact while giving it a finish that feels specific to SLAM.

The release also comes as Nike continues digging back into its early-2000s basketball catalog. Models like the Hyperflight and Foamposite have returned alongside newer performance shoes that are once again being worn away from the court.
