Nike will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Cortez in 2022. For the occasion, Chitose Abe’s Sacai will be releasing a few collaborative designs of the Cortez.
Originally released in 1972, the Nike Cortez was first designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. It was released at the peak of the 1972 Summer Olympics, which is why it gained rapid exponential interest by the general public.
Dressed in an OG color blocking, the Sacai x Nike Cortez features a White leather base with Grey suede overlays paired with Red and Blue contrasting accents. Other details includes double-layering similar to the LDWaffle, Blazer ad VaporWaffle collabs. Co-branding with visible Zoom Air in the forefoot housed in special packaging completes the design.
