Ronaldo is already thinking ahead to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, and he has one idea that would instantly get people talking.
While speaking at Nike’s House of Mercurial event at the former 21 Mercer space in New York City, the Brazil icon said he would like to see Travis Scott work on a Nike Mercurial R9 collaboration for the 2030 World Cup. Coming from Ronaldo, that is a major co-sign, especially considering the Mercurial R9 remains one of Nike Football’s most recognizable signature boots.
The timing would make sense if Nike ever decided to make it happen. The 2030 World Cup will celebrate the tournament’s 100th anniversary and will be staged across multiple countries and continents. Opening matches are set for South America before the competition moves to Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.
Travis Scott has already started building a stronger connection with Nike Football. His first soccer boot project recently released through the Cactus Jack x Nike Phantom 6, which arrived in both indoor and outdoor versions. Nike also brought Scott and the Cactus Jack crew to New York City for the Nike Toma National Finals at Bryant Park, showing that the partnership is moving beyond basketball and lifestyle sneakers.
Nothing has been confirmed, but Ronaldo putting the idea out there definitely makes it more interesting. A Travis Scott x Nike Mercurial R9 for the 2030 World Cup would bring together one of football’s most iconic boots with one of Nike’s biggest collaborators.
