Pharrell is pulling another overlooked adidas model back into view with the VIRGINIA Watermoc, a modern update of the Equipment Water Mo from 1997. Nicknamed the “Starfish,” the shoe was introduced during Paris Fashion Week in five bold colorways.

The original Water Moc was built for use around water, and that purpose still shows through in the new design. A lightweight technical upper sits on a low rubber outsole with traction made for slick surfaces, but the overall shape feels sharper and more fashion-focused than the late-’90s version.

A wide midfoot strap gives Pharrell’s take its most recognizable detail. It begins near the inside collar, wraps across the top of the foot, and secures on the lateral side with an elastic cord. Along with locking the foot in place, the strap breaks up the otherwise stripped-back upper.

The tooling also reaches into another part of the adidas outdoor archive. Its grooved midsole and rugged tread resemble details used on the Carnuba Adventure Moc during the mid-2000s, adding another archival reference without turning the shoe into a direct remake.

Red, yellow, blue, green, and black versions have been previewed so far. Each pair follows a mostly monochrome setup, which keeps the focus on the sculpted panels, open construction, and unusual fastening system.

The Pharrell x adidas VIRGINIA Watermoc “Starfish” is expected to release September 15, 2026, with each colorway reportedly priced at $220.
