adidas End Use of Kangaroo Leather For Athletic Shoes

After years of hopping around the issue, Adidas ends use of kangaroo leather—and no, it wasn’t a publicity stunt.

At the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Germany, CEO Bjørn Gulden casually dropped the bomb: they’ve already ditched kangaroo leather. Apparently, Adidas pulled the plug months ago and didn’t even brag about it. Modesty, in 2025? Shocking.

Wayne Pacelle, president of the Center for a Humane Economy, made the plea. But let’s be honest, Adidas probably saw the writing on the wall. The “Kangaroos Are Not Shoes” campaign has been gaining traction since 2020, and Adidas didn’t want to be the last brand clinging to kangaroo hide like it’s 1983.

Brands like Nike, PUMA, New Balance, and Diadora already ditched the roo. So Adidas finally joined the cool, cruelty-free club. No more joeys left motherless for a pair of overpriced cleats. Sounds like progress, right?

Activists from TheirTurn, the Animal Justice Party, and the International Kangaroo Protection Alliance all celebrated like it was an animal-rights Super Bowl. And honestly, they earned it.

With the top five athletic shoe brands now kangaroo-free, all eyes turn to ASICS and Mizuno. Your move, Japan. Try not to be that guy at the sustainability party.

In conclusion, the world didn’t end without kangaroo leather—and neither did sneaker culture. Turns out compassion looks good on everyone.

Jordan MVP 92 “Viotech” Releases Summer 2025

Inspired by the classic Air Jordan 7, this hybrid brings the past and present together in one spicy sneaker stew. Think vintage flavor with a futuristic kick—literally.

The upper rocks a mix of “Cave Stone” suede and “Oil Grey” overlays that scream premium. Add mesh on the midfoot and you’ve got breathability that won’t make your feet cry. But wait—it gets funkier.

Purple “Viotech” suede crashes the party at the heel and tongue. Then, just to mess with your eyes in the best way, a bold “Dark Sulfur” liner jumps in. It’s like someone blended a Lakers jersey with streetwear energy.

Of course, the Flight logo on the tongue and Nike Air on the heel seal the deal. That’s like MJ himself nodding in approval—probably mid-dunk.

Lil Yachty Nike Air Force 1 “Lucky Green” Releases May 2025

Lil Yachty and Nike are gearing up for the release of their second collaboration, a bold and vibrant colorway of the “Concrete Boys” Air Force 1, slated for Summer 2025. This iteration brings a daring Lucky Green, Mystic Red, and University Gold palette, drawing inspiration from the pair Yachty famously wore at Coachella 2023.

Diverging from the understated “White/Navy” design of the first “Concrete Boys” release, which paid homage to early 2000s artist-run label promos, this new drop channels nostalgia for the era’s vibrant streetwear. It’s a clear nod to the colorful patent leather BAPE STAs popularized by NIGO, blending iconic aesthetics with Yachty’s eclectic flair.

The sneaker’s standout features include Lucky Green patent leather uppers contrasted with University Gold on the midsole and body panels. University Red accents elevate the design further, with a bold Swoosh and matching outsole. Yachty’s signature touch is unmistakable, highlighted by the “Concrete Boys” logo on the heel, cementing the sneaker’s connection to his creative identity.

Jordan Brand just made a power move—signing Tetairoa McMillan to its elite athlete roster. Touchdown, meet Jumpman.

The Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver isn’t just bringing his hands to the field—he’s bringing heat with the Tetairoa McMillan Jordan Brand partnership. Known for his college dominance and sharp focus, McMillan fits right in with MJ’s philosophy: greatness or bust.

He now shares the Jordan Brand spotlight with Davante Adams, Deebo Samuel, and Puka Nacua. That’s like joining the Avengers, but in cleats and gold chains. Hard work, hustle, and highlights—McMillan checks every box.

Nike KD 18 “DMV Drive” Now Available (May 2025)

Kevin Durant blends basketball nostalgia with innovation in his latest Nike KD 18. This new silhouette pays tribute to the iconic 1997 Nike Air Bakin. The Air Bakin holds a strong cultural connection in Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County, Maryland—Durant’s hometown.

Durant first laced up the Nike KD 18 “Air Bakin’ during a Phoenix Suns game. The sneaker features a bold red-and-black upper with yellow laces, echoing the Air Bakin’s signature look. Wavy side panels, breathable mesh, and KD branding on the tongue modernize the retro design.

The original Nike Air Bakin ‘1-800’ ad

The original Air Bakin became infamous due to controversy surrounding its stylized “Air” logo. Many believed the design resembled Arabic script, leading Nike to recall 38,000 pairs. Despite this, the shoe remains a favorite among basketball enthusiasts. Worn by NBA legend Tim Hardaway, the Air Bakin last retroed in 2014. Supreme also reimagined the model with an exclusive collaboration in 2023.

The KD 18 “Air Bakin” merges history with performance, bringing back a legendary colorway with Durant’s signature touch. Its design respects the past while enhancing comfort and playability for today’s game.

Nike Book 1 “Decade” Now Available (May 2025)

When in doubt, just make it about the hometown. Devin Booker and Nike are back at it again, this time with the Nike Book 1 Valley colorway. Inspired by the heart of Phoenix, this version joins the Sedona and Flagstaff drops in what’s apparently Arizona’s unofficial sneaker tour.

Let’s talk aesthetics. A clean Sail base screams “classic,” while orange and purple accents give it that undeniable Phoenix Suns vibe. And yes, Booker’s lucky number 1 is stitched proudly on the heel—because subtlety is overrated. The tongue flaunts custom illustrations too, like it just came out of a basketball fairytale.

But wait, there’s more! Nike added a pre-yellowed midsole so you can skip the part where you spill mustard on it. That faux-vintage look? It’s not just a style choice—it’s Book’s ode to all things old-school and dusty (in the coolest way possible).

Performance-wise, you still get the Air Zoom tech underfoot, so you’re not just looking good—you’re landing soft too. Whether you’re hooping or flexing on the sidewalk, the Nike Book 1 Valley has your back.

The Nike Book 1 “Valley” releases on May 15, 2025, at select Nike Basketball retailers and Nike.com for $140 USD.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Buys Foot Locker For $2.3 Billion

UPDATE 5/15/25: On May 15, 2025, Dick’s Sporting Goods has officially acquired Foot Locker for $2.3 billion. This deal cements Dick’s as the leading global athletic retailer, generating more than $21 billion in revenue during FY24. The acquisition includes key Foot Locker subsidiaries: Champs Sports, Kids Foot Locker, atmos, and WSS.

Original Post:
Looks like Dick’s Sporting Goods is lacing up for a major retail power play. Word on Wall Street? They’re closing in on a deal to scoop up Foot Locker for a whopping $2.3 billion. That’s right—Dick’s might be adding new sneakers to their portfolio by Thursday, May 15.

The deal values Foot Locker at $24 per share—nearly double its current stock price. Talk about a glow-up! Founded in 1974, Foot Locker has more than 2,000 stores in 40+ countries and employs over 46,000 people. But despite its iconic status, it’s been tripping lately—losing 6% in revenue and closing hundreds of stores since 2019.

Meanwhile, Dick’s Sporting Goods, founded in 1948, is flexing as America’s top sporting goods retailer with over 700 stores as of 2024. This retail acquisition would let Dick’s go global in a big way—and possibly shake up the sneaker industry while they’re at it.

If finalized, the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foot Locker acquisition could combine performance wear, lifestyle kicks, and global reach under one giant retail roof. Talk about a retail crossover episode we didn’t see coming.

Stay tuned. This business sneaker drop might just be bigger than your favorite retro re-release.
