Today is a sad day in the basketball world, and especially here in Detroit where Ben Wallace is so dearly loved. Wallace announced today that he’ll retire following this season. Tonight he will play his 1,055th career NBA game, setting a record for most game played by a undrafted player.
Its amazing what Mr Wallace has accomplished, from being a 4 time defensive player of the year, 4 time all star, and of course the ultimate prize, winning a Championship in Detroit in 2004. Ben embodied what it is to be a Detroiter, a hard working undersized blue collar defender who played with all heart and passion.
But with the Pistons rebuilding and Wallace now at the age of 37, its probably time. Afer practice Wallace stated “This is definitely my last year.”
Even with the Pistons struggling now, no one can take away our championship from 2004 or the memories and toughness Wallace brought to Detroit. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES BIG BEN.
