Nike Tennis Unveils Air Max Cage

This January Nike Tennis introduces the new Air Max Cage: the ultimate in lightweight, durable tennis footwear. Inspired by and designed for athletes like Juan Martin Del Potro, it’s the first Nike Tennis shoe to showcase the new Drag-On Cage — a durable design feature that enhances the shoe’s flexibility while maximizing support and durability. The varying hole sizes that make up the Air Max Cage’s unique upper pattern deliver performance innovations based on their size: the larger holes enhance flexibility while smaller holes provide more support. The shoe is also incredibly lightweight at 13.2 ounces.

The shoe’s upper is built on a wider last for enhanced on-court comfort. Mesh throughout the shoe maximizes breathability and keeps the foot cool. Its articulated eyestays are built to improve fit and reduce irritation when the laces bunch. And the padded, wrapped tongue also reduces irritation and improves comfort. The phylon midsole delivers a cushioned, smooth ride and the large TPU midfoot shank improves lateral support and stability during a match’s directional changes and sprints. The Air Max unit in the heel provides cushioning, impact protection and comfort.

The outsole finishes off the focused detail on producing a durable, lightweight product with a full-length XDR outsole that delivers long-lasting durability and traction on multiple surfaces. The shoe’s internal “wear shelf” is thickest at the toe and ball of the foot, which further increases the shoe’s durability, while the thinner areas are located where players need more flexibility.

The result: A shoe designed to last and perform while keeping the athlete comfortable throughout the match
