Release Reminder – Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Highlight Reel”
As is often the case with sneaker colorways, the inspiration behind the Air Jordan 1 Retro Hi OG “Highlight Reel” that releases this Saturday, September 7th is one of Michael Jordan’s opponents during his spectacular career. Instead of a team inspiration, much like the Retro IV “Cavs,” Saturday’s release pays homage to a player – Dominique Wilkins – nicknamed The Human Highlight Reel. Jordan and Wilkins had many a great battle during their years in the league together – Michael with the Bulls and Dominique with the Hawks. The pinnacle of those battles was the Slam Dunk contests between the two high flyers – the best of which was the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest in Chicago which you can see highlights of after the jump. The Hawks jerseys from Wilkins era serves as the colorway for this shoe with a little added black. A combination of black and gym red make up the shoe’s upper. A tonal pattern on the black on the shoe’s mid-panel and toe box also feature a film pattern, a la a film reel. University gold accents take care of the Nike Swoosh, OG Air Jordan logo on the ankle, sock liner, and outsole. A white midsole rounds out the release.
The Air Jordan Retro 1 Hi OG “Highlight Reel” releases on Saturday, September 7 at House of Hoops by Foot Locker locations and online at Footlocker.com (starting at 8:00 am EDT) for $140. Check out the Launch Locator to see which stores will have this release.

Release Reminder – Nike Kobe 8 System “Taipan”
While Kevin Durant and LeBron James have moved on to the next numbered models of their signature shoes, Nike Basketball is not ready to let the Kobe 8 go just yet as the newest colorway in the series, the System “Taipan” makes its way into stores this weekend. Fierce, fast-moving and rare, the Inland Taipan snake is considered to be one of the most venomous in the world and serves as the inspiration for this latest colorway.
Designed for one of the most potent offensive forces in the game, the shoe features a Taipan resembling midsole that fades from dark navy to yellow with hints of orange spots, springy cushioning and 360 degrees of breathability. An engineered mesh upper provides a dynamic, ultra-light fit that allows you burst by your defender and stop on a dime in transition. Built for tenacious traction, the Kobe 8 System’s webbed rubber outsole provides superior court feel and fuels lightning-fast cuts. With Tiger print and a mix of deep royal, orange and yellow colors, the Kobe 8 System “Taipan” is truly one of the most unique Kobe 8 kicks we’ve seen to date. Pick a pair starting Saturday, September 7th in stores and online (starting at 8:00 a.m. EDT) for $140. Check the Launch Locator to see which stores will have this release.
