Nike Introduces NikeLab

Nike has created a new consumer destination called NikeLab that will transform the retail landscape in both physical spaces and through e-commerce. NikeLab opens on June 12 in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Shanghai and Hong Kong, and digitally through Nike.com/NikeLab. The new destination will provide consumers with unique expressions of Nike’s leading innovations within an experience that bridges physical retail, online commerce, and digital engagement. Nike.com/NikeLab will also extend consumer engagement globally through Twitter and Instagram, and via We Chat in China.

NikeLab is a place to showcase how Nike interacts and collaborates with other innovators as part of its larger journey of exploration. Offering expanded access to Nike’s most anticipated and surprising products, NikeLab broadens the experience to global communities through the digital space. Designed to be a retail destination that serves to spark consumer discovery in new and unexpected ways, NikeLab will present a curated collection defined by product never before imagined paired with new variations of our celebrated performance styles. Limited editions of Nike’s latest performance and sport style innovations that express the intersection of sport, design, and culture will be available. Nike’s heritage styles have also been reinterpreted through creative collaborations, and unique capsule collections from various creative partners such as designer Jun Takahashi from UNDERCOVER, will come together as a tailored assortment exclusive to NikeLab.

For Nike, innovation goes beyond product. Nike will bring to life its design principles at retail. Taking inspiration from product design, each NikeLab achieves maximum performance and aesthetics with low environmental impact. Core Nike design principles such as less is more, lightweight, functionality, and modularity inform the fixtures, materials used in the construction, and the functionality of the spaces. Working with long-term partner Arthur Huang, founder of design firm Miniwiz, Nike designers together with Huang developed innovative materials created from motherboards and casings that hint to the potential of re-used materials to push retail design forward.

Nike Free Mercurial Superfly HTM

To mark the opening of NikeLab locations across the globe, on June 12, Nike will release the Free Mercurial Superfly HTM exclusively within physical NikeLab locations and through Nike.com/NikeLab.

Nike brings the innovation, performance and bold personality of the new Nike Mercurial Superfly boot to the streets with the introduction of the Nike Free Mercurial Superfly HTM. Filtered through the collaborative design lens of NIKE, Inc. President and CEO/ designer Mark Parker, Fragment Design Founder Hiroshi Fujiwara and Nike design legend Tinker Hatfield, HTM continues its tradition of hinting to the future of footwear design with disruptive interpretations that defy convention. Dedicated to disciples of design and innovation, the Free Mercurial Superfly HTM is inspired by the benefits of performance football and also integrates Nike’s most celebrated performance technologies such as Nike Flyknit and Nike Free.

Playing off the performance benefits of fit, heightened sensation and natural motion, the Free Mercurial Superfly HTM acknowledges the need for these same performance benefits to respond to the rigors of everyday wear. To capture the aesthetic language of speed and style associated with the Nike Mercurial design ethos, the shoe retains a lightweight Nike Flyknit upper. Similar to that of the Mercurial Superfly boot, it boasts a sock-like fit and high, integrated ankle cuff that eliminates distraction and enhances reaction—on or off the pitch.

Likewise, dynamic Nike Flywire cables were preserved to boost support, while NIKESKIN, which provides waterproofing on the boot, was eliminated to enhance breathability. The Swoosh logo, which is airbrushed and oversized, reflects the Mercurial boot’s trademark look.

A Nike Free 5.0 platform sole complements the form-fitting upper and enhances natural motion for a comfortable, flexible ride; the leather heel adds support and premium styling.

The Nike Free Mercurial Superfly HTM debuts June 12 in Stealth Black exclusively at NikeLab destinations around the world and on nike.com/nikelab.

Nike and Lithuanian Basketball Federation Unveil New Team Kit

The Lithuanian Basketball Federation, in partnership with Nike, introduced uniforms for the Lithuania National Basketball team for the 2014-2015 Season.

“Nike is the leader in basketball innovation, we are very proud to be outfitted by Nike” Jonas Kazlauskas Head Coach of the Lithuanian Men’s Senior Basketball National Team.

Nike created the uniforms with performance innovation at the forefront — considered design that benefits the athletes. The jersey is a lightweight, breathable and durable: sphere fabric with flocking at the interior neck for sweat management; articulated armholes maximize range of motion.

“I really like how lightweight the Nike uniforms are. It is a real advantage for me when I play,” says Simas Jasaitis.

The four-way stretch woven short features laser perforations and ventilation throughout the short and waistband for breathability and maximum movement.

The New Lithuanian basketball team outfit is bright and full of energy, with “Lithuania” in strong visible lettering on the front of the shirt. The aerographic design on the back of the uniform shows a literal image of the coat of arms of Lithuania. This design element has been central to the uniform since 2012.

Nike’s design team combined graphic elements from the coat of arms with some of the proud tie-dye history of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation to create a modern design element for the side panel of the uniform. The coat of arms is the Lithuanian symbol of decisive battles and victories for the country and is a great testament to the performance of the national team.

Tonal shades of gold in the green kit, and bold green and gold for the white kit are additional touches designed to bring spirit into the uniform, which represent some of the great teams of the past, while providing a modern aesthetic for the current team, as it looks to the future.

Nike has been the official supplier of the Lithuanian National Basketball Team for more than 17 years.

Celtic Unveils New 2014-2015 Nike Away Kit

The new Celtic away kit is brilliantly infused with the club’s rich history and proud tradition.

For the 2014-15 season, Celtic will play in a predominantly green away kit inspired by the design of the club’s first away kit.

On the front of the new away shirt is an enlarged graphic of the Celtic tartan to reflect the club’s Scottish heritage, while gold-infused horizontal and vertical lines from the tartan run through the club crest to replicate the Celtic cross. The shirt features gold trim at the neck and sleeves.

Inside the back of the neck is a green and white pennant tab reflecting Celtic’s famous hoops from their home shirt with the proud statement: “A club like no other.”

The new away shorts are green with a thin darker green stripe along each side, while the socks are green with a darker green band at the top, and a wide tonal stripe of chevrons on the back.

While this new kit features Nike’s signature design details, it also offers players the very latest in performance innovation, kit technology and environmental sustainability.

NIKE DRI-FIT TECHNOLOGY
Nike Dri-Fit technology draws sweat away from the body to the exterior of the shirts and shorts where it quickly evaporates. This helps players to perform at their absolute best by remaining cooler, drier and more comfortable.

The laser-cut ventilation holes and mesh panels featured in key areas of the kit increase air circulation to the players’ bodies to help regulate their temperatures throughout ninety minutes on the pitch.

The kits are made of a new dual-knit fabric consisting of both cotton and recycled polyester, which removes sweat while providing a softer feel and an overall more flattering appearance.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Nike continues to place environmental sustainability at the heart of their kits, which are again made from recycled polyester this year. These kits have been created to provide both unrivalled performance benefits and lower environmental impact.

The kits are made from recycled plastic water bottles. The shorts are 100 percent recycled polyester; the shirts are 96 percent recycled polyester, while the socks are 78 percent.

Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles, and over the last four years Nike has diverted almost two billion of these bottles from landfills to produce their kits.

By using recycled polyester Nike is also reducing the energy consumed in the entire process by up to 30 percent.

A NEW AND UPDATED PERFECT FIT
Nike took 3D body scans of many of the world’s leading footballers to create a kit with an updated and perfect new fit. The new fit allows the body to move more naturally within the kit, and so effortlessly improves players’ comfort and performance.

The Nike Elite Match fit sock for 2014 also boasts a sleeker and updated design created especially for football.

Nike’s designers spoke to many of today’s elite players to gain an insight in to what they wanted from a sock during a game. There are now strategically cushioned zones to provide comfort and protection around the big toe and the anklebones where the majority of impact occurs, while arch support provides a firm foundation for the foot to prevent any slipping.

There is less material on the sock to enhance players’ touch, while flex grooves on the ankle and top of the foot prevent bunching.

The new away kit will be available to purchase in stores and from Nike.com from June 19.
