Back in December 2015, sneakerheads were blindsided. Out of nowhere, a supposed Air Jordan 11 surfaced with a moon crater print on the mudguard, red-striped overlays, and a star-spangled heel. If Neil Armstrong dunked, this would’ve been his PE.

A legit-looking countdown appeared on Spain-based retailer Sivasdescalzo’s site. Hype erupted. But here’s the twist: December 28th is Spain’s version of April Fools Day, aka El Día de los Santos Inocentes. Translation? We all got played.

This wasn’t some custom from a basement artist. This was a full-blown hoax that had people refreshing Twitter like it owed them money. Long before we had full yearly Jordan Brand calendars or Instagram leaks, the Jordan 11 Moon Landing stirred up chaos with no warning.

Looking back, it’s a classic IYKYK moment. It captured an era when surprises were real, and every “leak” wasn’t dissected months in advance. Now? We basically know what’s dropping for the next Olympics.
