Nike release in first Black History Month release, a limited-edition Air Force 1, in 2005. Since then, it has been a yearly tradition, each celebrating African American heritage and a more inclusive world for all athletes.
For 2019, the BHM Collection is highlighted by Nike, Jordan and Converse silhouettes inspired by an assortment of national African patterns, brought together onto modernized prints in a theme of Afro-futurism in sport.
For Jonathan Johnsongriffin, Senior Creative Director for Nike Basketball, the design reflects how athletes today are fully embracing their backgrounds and are becoming catalysts for change in their local communities. That civic-minded approach also takes shape in the following new and existing opportunities for community leaders.
The lineup includes the Nike LeBron 16, Kyrie 5, PG 3, KD 11, Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 2, Jordan Why Not Zer0.2, two Converse Chuck Taylor Highs, Nike Air Force 1 Utility, and the Flare 2.
