Returning from Nike Basketball’s early-2000s archive, the Zoom Hyperflight “Varsity Red” brings back one of the era’s most daring designs. First released in 2001, the low-profile model broke from the bulkier court footwear of its era with a molded shape, glossy shell and almost seamless appearance.

Varsity Red covers the synthetic upper with a reflective, mirror-like finish that gives the shoe its signature look. Black wraps the heel and continues beneath the foot, while a small white Swoosh near the lateral toe provides the only sharp contrast across the upper.

The Hyperflight emerged from an era when Nike Basketball favored lighter constructions and swooping aesthetics. The molded upper appeared more like a prototype than an actual performance basketball shoe, allowing it to transcend the game. Even now that silhouette seems exotic, especially as Nike revisits its early-2000s basketball archives.

The Nike Hyperflight “Varsity Red” releases July 10, 2026, as part of a wider group of returning Hyperflight colorways. The shoe will be available through Nike.com and select retailers for $170.
