The Nike SB PS8 “Safari” returns to one of Nike’s most familiar patterns, but this version has a stronger connection to the original Air Safari than the earlier pairs. It also serves as a tribute to Sandy Bodecker, the longtime Nike figure whose work helped shape Nike SB.
The 1987 Air Safari is easy to spot in the color blocking. Orange covers the toe box and returns on the sockliner, while a black leather Swoosh replaces the grey branding used on a previous PS8 “Safari.” That small change makes this pair feel much closer to the shoe that introduced the Safari print.
Nike maintains a modern skate construction on the inside of the PS8’s retro aesthetic. The upper is mostly made up of Flyknit, though TPU structures are overlaid to provide support. The toe cap and heel counter are also reinforced with leather, with both elements finished with the spotted Safari print.
Sporting a black and Sail Air Zoom outsole, the underside of the shoe has a worn in feel without taking the retro theme overboard. Overall, the shoe still presents itself as a performance-minded skate model with one of Nike’;s vintage design archives infused into the design.
Bodecker held several roles during his time at Nike, though his influence on the company’s skateboarding division remains a major part of his legacy. Bringing the Safari story onto the PS8 ties together two different eras of Nike design without turning the shoe into a straight retro.
The Nike SB PS8 “Safari” will release during Summer 2026 for $135. Pairs will be available at select skate shops and Nike.com.
