The Nike SB Dunk Low “Freddy Krueger” takes its look from the killer in A Nightmare on Elm Street, right down to the bloody details. The shoe was originally supposed to release around Halloween 2007, but it never made it to stores.
Freddy’s familiar red and green striped sweater covers the textile upper, while the beige leather overlays come stained with blood splatters. The Metallic Silver Swoosh is a nod to the blades on his glove, the same ones he used to terrorize his victims in their dreams. Red Nike branding on the heel, a tan midsole, and black outsole finish off the shoe.
The “Freddy Krueger” SBs were originally planned as part of Nike SB’s “Horror Pack,” which was expected to arrive ahead of Halloween in 2007. With the sweater pattern, blood stains, and silver Swoosh, there was no mistaking which horror character the shoe was based on.
Before the Dunks could make it to stores, Nike reportedly received a cease-and-desist notice from the rights holders of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The release was canceled, leaving behind only the sample pairs that had already been made.
Around 30 pairs are rumored to exist, although that number has never been officially confirmed. Nearly 20 years later, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Freddy Krueger” is still one of the most sought-after unreleased sneakers in Nike SB history.
