First Look at the Nike Kobe 3 Protro “Orca”

Published on

Nike has spent much of the past year bringing the Kobe 3 back into focus, including a redesigned Low version that gave the model a noticeably different look. The original mid-top has received far less attention, but that is starting to change with the return of one of its first colorways.

The Nike Kobe 3 Protro “Orca” brings back the black-based style that debuted during the shoe’s original run. Its diamond-patterned upper is covered almost entirely in black, while a contrasting Swoosh and gold detailing through the center add some separation to the otherwise dark design.

Although the Kobe 3 has never reached the same level of popularity as the Kobe 5 or Kobe 6, it has remained a favorite among longtime Kobe collectors. PJ Tucker wore the original “Orca” during the 2024 NBA season, helping put the colorway back in front of fans before its official retro return.

The model also comes from an important stretch of Kobe Bryant’s career. He wore the Kobe 3 during his 2007-08 MVP season, which included All-NBA and All-Defensive honors along with a trip to the NBA Finals. That season later inspired the Kobe 3 “Misery” from the Prelude Pack.
