Regional sneaker releases are becoming more common, and Kobe Brand is starting to lean into the idea. After the Jalen Brunson x Nike Kobe 5 was tied closely to New York, another city-specific Kobe release recently surfaced in Los Angeles.
The Nike Kobe 3 Low “Crenshaw” was made for the opening of The Crenshaw Rec., a new Nike and Foot Locker retail and community space on Slauson Avenue. The location opened August 22 with a swap meet and basketball tournament, along with special footwear connected to the neighborhood.
For the occasion, Nike brought out matching “The Shaw” colorways of the Kobe 3 Low and Book 2. Both pairs use blue and yellow inspired by Crenshaw High School, colors that have long been connected to the area.
The Kobe 3 Low stands out with a gradient finish that moves from bright yellow around the heel into blue across the front of the shoe. The Book 2 takes a cleaner approach with a mostly white mesh upper, blue detailing, and a gold Swoosh.
The Nike Kobe 3 Low “The Shaw” and Nike Book 2 “The Shaw” were released in person as part of The Crenshaw Rec. opening. A wider release is not expected, leaving both pairs as limited Los Angeles exclusives.
