The “5AM Flight” was the first colorway released on the Nike Kobe 10 back in 2015. Now, more than a decade later, Nike is bringing it back as a Protro.

Not much has changed visually. The upper is still covered in Blue Lagoon engineered mesh, with black Swooshes along the sides and red accents on the tongue, heel, and Kobe Bryant’s signature. The semi-translucent outsole is back too. From the early photos, it looks much closer to a straight return than a redesigned version of the original shoe.
The name came from a video Bryant posted while recovering from his torn Achilles. In the short Vine clip, he dives into a swimming pool at 5 a.m. It was filmed during the long rehab process that followed his 2013 injury, and the moment eventually became the story behind the Kobe 10’s launch colorway.
That connection to the water is carried onto the shoe through a graphic hidden inside the tongue. Most of the other updates should be found in the cushioning and performance setup, which is usually where Nike makes changes to its Kobe Protro releases.
