During 2013 Kobe Bryant was on his traditional tour of China where he literally turned into a coach for young Chinese basketball players.

During the tour coach Bryant woke up his players in the middle of the night for a 4AM practice to teach the kids about mental toughness.

What seems to be inspired by the tour is the Nike KB Mentality “4AM” colorway. Dressed in a Black and Red color scheme that includes 4:00 AM on the back heel.

“I think being up at 4 a.m. adds to the mental toughness,” Bryant says in the video. “You start to think ‘Ah, maybe this morning I don’t have to. I’ll just roll over and go back to sleep. I can shut the alarm off.’ And that’s really challenging you mentally to really have to get up and perform — so that’s why I do it.
