Nike is continuing to explore the storytelling side of its performance lineup with a new basketball release inspired by one of the brand’s most unusual mascots. Newly revealed images of the .SWOOSH x Nike GT Future “Swooshman” offer a closer look at a colorway that pays tribute to a forgotten piece of Nike’s basketball history.

The concept traces back to the 1990s, when Nike created a larger-than-life mascot known as Swooshman. Covered in Nike logos and wearing a futuristic helmet, the character traveled to stadium events and brand showcases to energize crowds during the company’s basketball tours. At the time, these events served as major promotional moments before modern athlete tours and social media marketing took over. The original Swooshman suit reportedly cost around $125,000, making it one of the brand’s most extravagant promotional pieces of the era.

Now, decades later, Nike is bringing that character back through a special edition of the GT Future. Official images highlight a bold gradient color scheme that starts with icy blue across the outsole and lower portion of the sculpted upper. As the color climbs the shoe, it gradually shifts into grey before finishing in clean white around the ankle collar.

Red Swooshes appear on the medial toe and lateral heel, referencing the oversized logos that defined the original Swooshman costume. Additional storytelling details include a custom helmet graphic placed on the tongue and insoles, reinforcing the connection to the vintage mascot.

The .SWOOSH x Nike GT Future “Swooshman” will release March 20, 2026 via SNKRS Pre-Order. The performance basketball model will arrive in men’s sizing with a retail price of $210.
